
Paez spearheads 2nd Chooks to Go National Rapid Chess Championships tournament entries

CABUYAO, Laguna top player Alexandra Sydney Paez, Grade 8 Student of Colegio De San Juan de Letran-Calamba is seeing action in the upcoming 2nd Chooks to Go National Rapid Chess Championships on October 6, 2018 at the Activity Center Ayala Malls South Park in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
The 13-year-old Alexandra Sydney, daughter of Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) Public Relation Officer (PRO) Dr. Alfredo ?Fred? Paez is the champion in the 26th Golden Mind Chess Tournament (Under-14) that was held at the EBR Building, Tagumpay Canteen, Tagumpay Supermarket, Lipa City, Batangas last February 4, 2018. She tallied perfect 7 points.
She also landed at runner-up place in the 2018 National Age-Group Chess Championships (Visayas Leg) held at the City Mall, Kalibo, Aklan last January 27-28, 2018.
Joining Alexandra Sydney are 9-years-old Webster Lagera, the Cabuyao City Kiddie Champion from Cabuyao Central Elementary School and 13-years-old Oryza Reign Repato, Qualifier for the 2018 Batang Pinoy Finals, product of Cabuyao City Mayor Mel Gecolea.
"Ang Pilipino naman hindi lang pang-basketball, we are also very underrated with regards to mind games like chess," said Bounty Agro Ventures Inc. president Ronald Mascari?as.
"With tournaments like this, we want to give more exposure to our woodpushers by facing quality opponents," the amiable executive added.
Around 400 chess players from all over Metro Manila and other parts of the country are expected to participate this year's National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament and is organized by the Rotary Club of Nuvali and Muntinlupa City.

?This is one of the strongest rapid chess tournament in the country and we hope to continue it annually to help provide a venue for local chess players to train and hone their skills and, most importantly, compete with the top players in the country,? added Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) Public Relations Officer (PRO) Dr. Alfred "Fred" Paez.
The 2nd Chooks to Go National Rapid Chess Championships is a 7-round Swiss System Four Division Tournament with time control of twenty minutes (20) plus 5 seconds delay for each player for the entire game.
It is open to all players of all ages, rated or non-rated, male or female.
A registration fee of P500 (Open), P300 (Junior) P250 (Kiddies) and P1,000 (Executive, PECA members) will be required from each division.
