GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. leads in 2018 Lifecore Enterprises Open Rapid Fide Rated Chess

GRANDMASTER (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr., the 12-time Philippine Open Champion, will lead local chess masters seeing action in the 2018 Lifecore Enterprises Open Rapid Fide Chess Tournament on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Xentro Mall in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.

Antonio who hails from Calapan City is fresh from winning the 9th IGB Seniors Open Chess Championships 2018 dubbed as Malaysian Chess Festival 2018 held at the CitiTel Hotel in CitiTel Midvalley, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last August 26, 2018.
Antonio's compatriot International Master Emmanuel Senador and Uzbek Grandmaster Alexei Barsov ended in a three-way tie for first place with 7 points each.

Antonio who also spearheaded the Tagaytay City chess team backed up by rep. Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr. into an over-all 3rd place finished during the Astro Merdeka Rapid Open Team Chess Championship last August 18, 2018 in the same venue. Antonio who is also won the individual Board 2 gold medallist.

Also taking the boards on Sunday are Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Yusuf Riano Galindo, Fide Masters (FMs) David Elorta, Nelson "Elo" Mariano III, Hamed and Alekhine Nouri, FM elect Michael Concio Jr., National Masters (NMs) Noel dela Cruz and Emmanuel Emperado, Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe, Emmanuel and Joselito Asi, Drigo Teves, Stephen Reloj and Manolo " Manny" Puertellano. (Marlon Bernardino)
