Cabuyao bet tops Baguio chessfest

CABUYAO CITY top player Vince Angelo Medina had the higher 31.5 tie break points against 30 points of Antipolo City based Rodolfo "Jun" Panopio Jr. to win the recent 42nd Baguio Center Mall Non-Master Chess Tournament held at the 5th floor Baguio Center Mall in Baguio City.

Medina whose stint here is being supported by Cabuyao City mayor Rommel Gecolea and Cabuyao City Chess Club and Panopio Jr. finished in a two-way tie at first place with 6.5 points in seven outings.

"I would like to thank Cabuyao City mayor Rommel Gecolea and Cabuyao City Chess Club for supporting me in this event," said Medina, a former mainstay of the multi-titled UAAP champion National University Chess Team.

Medina received the top purse of P7,000 and a trophy while Panopio pocketed the runner-up prize of P5,000 and a trophy in the one day event organized by Mr. Teddy Lumauig Sarmiento using the 45 minutes time control format.

Macapagal Paguital of Rodriguez, Rizal finished 3rd over-all with 5.5 points to went home P3,000 and a trophy.

Paquital had a superior quotient against fellow 5.5 pointers that includes 4th placers Don Tyrone Delos Santos of Guadalupe Chess Club, Makati City, 5th placers Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, 6th placers Geron Bas-Ong, 7th placers Marvin Limocon and 8th placers John John Mendoza of Baguio City.
