GENERAL SANTOS CITY ? Sen. Manny Pacquiao has started his active duty training (ADT) to qualify for the promotion to a one-star rank in the Army reserved force.
Pacquiao was recently promoted to a full-fledged colonel after completing his General Staff Course (GSC).
No less than President Duterte pinned Pacquiao?s rank in a simple ceremony held in Malacanang.
Active duty training is required before promotion to the rank of a brigadier general.
Pacquiao is aspiring for a one-star rank and has even signified his willingness to serve in the Philippine Army in active capacity.
On Thursday, Pacquiao started his ADT by visiting the headquarters of the 1205th Community Defense Center-Army Reserved Command 12 in Barangay Buayan here.
Pacquiao was met by Col. Alfredo Patarata, ARESCOM-12 regional commander; Col. Nady Espulgar, ARESCOM-12 deputy regional commander; and Col. Warren Manilay, Battalion commander of the 1205th Army Reserved Command in Sarangani and General Santos.
The three Army reserved officers briefed Pacquiao regarding the condition of the Army reserved force particularly in Sarangani and General Santos.
After the short briefing, Pacquiao toured around the camp before addressing the troop.
Pacquiao promised to set aside funds from his own pocket to improve the facilities and repair the structures inside the camp.
Aside from serving as a standby and augmentation force, Army reserved command here provides assistance to various local government units during calamities, disasters and emergency situation.
However, Pacquiao learned that local Army reservists are not getting support, particularly much needed financial assistance, from local government units where they render service.
Pacquiao is set to meet with the mayors of Sarangani and General Santos to galvanize local support for the 1205th Sargen Community Defense Command.
The meeting was scheduled this coming Wednesday at the conference hall of Pacquiao mansion-2 here.
Espulgar thanked Pacquiao for finding time to visit the camp despite his busy schedule.
?Sen. Pacquiao promised to help repair the structure inside the camp. His visit here boosts the morale of the troop,? Espulgar bared.
Pacquiao said ?Army reservists here are making big sacrifices and doing a great service to the community but they are not getting the needed support from the local government units. So, I?m calling the mayors to a meeting to emphasize the vital role being played by the Army reservists in their locality.?
Pacquiao is set to visit other military camps in the region in the next few weeks to complete his active duty training course.
