During the license renewal of players from various teams of Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) at Games and Amusement Board (GAB) on Monday, April 20,2026, Chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera graciously entertains the players and bolsters their fullest support to chess communities by pushing possible radical change in the criteria for the selection of hall of famer for chess.

Currently, criteria includes retirement from the sports to be able to qualify on this highest merit which should not apply in chess as seldom will there be a retiree on such “hobby” sports. The players present are mostly from the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers (IIEE) – Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) Quezon City (QC) team led by co-owner/Manager Engr. Allan Alvarez, 2021 IIEE National President, NM Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., NM Romeo Alcodia, Noel Jay Estacio and Coach Mikaela Concio. Other teams around are Dioniver "Bobot" Medrano of Cavite Spartan, and coach Mikaela siblings, IM Michael of Pasig King Pirates and Michella of Toledo-Xignex Trojans.

Meanwhile in PCAP, first timer Engr. Randy Turreda of IIEE-PSME-QC so far has perfect score of 4 of 4, as he bested Cagayan Kings Team manager Laurence Wilfred Dumadag in board 1 for both Blitz and Rapid games though Cagayan escaped with a slim margin of 11-10. He contributed the other 2 wins in the IIEE-PSME-QC win versus Rizal Batch Towers, 17.5 – 3.5. On resumption of PCAP games on April 22, 2026, new comers Electronic Engineer Jaime Hizon will play on lady board 3 and Mechanical Engineer NM Aglipay Oberio on top board for the team QC.(Marlon Bernardino)
