Mayweather: ?I?m not scared of GGG? (Who cares!)

Recently retired Hall of Fame fighter and Superstar Floyd ?Money? Mayweather (50-0, 27KOs) was heckled by a fan while at Madison Square Garden attending a Knick preseason game for not fighting reigning unified middleweight champion Gennady ?Easy Work?* Golovkin (38-0-1, 33KOs) also known as ?Triple G.?
Mayweather?s response was he?s not scared of the still undefeated Kazakastani born fighter. It appears the Heckler really got under Mayweather?s skin, because things got so heated he began belittling the Heckler to a point where his own security reportedly had to intervene. There?s an old expression that many may be familiar with, ?sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt?.
Really? I for one never bought into that. In fact some say words, insults, accusations, etc. may hurt even more than broken bones. Bones generally heal whereas something said can hurt for a lifetime or more especially if what was said is true on any level. Only God knows what?s in Mayweather head and heart as to whether or not he really is scared of ?Triple G?.
Mayweather?s response to the Heckler who apparently touched a Mayweather nerve makes some of us if not all wonder if there was any truth to what the Heckler said. The elder Mayweather, Floyd Sr., has gone on the record and has advised against a fight between his son and GGG, but that was in the past. This is nothing new in terms of who Mayweather will fight or avoid. Two significant fighters come to mind. Remember Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito?
Paul Williams was a WBO Welterweight champion. Some say he reminded fans off Thomas Hearns when he fought in the 147lbs division. He was a tall welterweight with good power. Floyd never fought him. In process of going in a different direction, Williams would eventually lose, rebound in a rematch, and then lose again before finally retiring from a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed. Floyd never fought Margarito. An inside source said Antonio Margarito reminded Floyd of bigger better version of Jose Luis Castillo who gave him fits in their first fight.
Many feel Mayweather lost that first fight against Castillo (Watch for yourself on YouTube Mayweather-Castillo I). Arum did everything he could to get the two former stablemates (Mayweather and Margarito) in the ring to no avail. Arum informed the media Mayweather flat out refused to fight Margarito even after being offered a guaranteed 8 million dollar purse, which would have been is highest purse at the time. That was one reason Arum and Mayweather?s relationship was reportedly never the same.
Along the way just like Williams, Margarito would lose and be accused of using ?loaded gloves? against opponents. When fans want Mayweather to fight someone who may challenge or possibly beat him, he finds a reason not to fight them and statistically these fighters all eventually end up losing for taking risk against other top level fighters.
Now it?s Gennady ?Easy Work? Golovkin's time to be avoided until he eventually loses and is forgotten like the other fighters. Golovkin?s camp has called out Mayweather for the past couple of years or more. They have even said they would fight Floyd at 154lbs. Golovkin has not lost, but has looked human against Danny Jacobs and was robbed a victory against Canelo with their bout being declared a controversial Draw in his last two bouts.
Some readers email this writer saying that GGG should fight guys his own size when I reference Golovkin?s willingness to fight Mayweather at 154lbs*. Well, wasn?t it Floyd who said a fight against Golovkin would be ?Easy Work?? Wasn?t it Floyd who recently said he?s not afraid of GGG? Why didn?t Floyd just ignore the Heckler?
This writer would not be even writing this article had Floyd done that. In the end, all this doesn?t matter, right? Is Floyd going to rematch with Connor McGregor for another massive payday or fight Golovkin? This writer along with all of Floyd?s supporters say he likely rematches with McGregor. So when Floyd says he?s not afraid of Golovkin there?s only one way to prove it. He has to fight Golovkin and do what he did to McGregor to Golovkin. As long as he doesn?t sign a contract to fight Golovkin and show up to execute the contract, who cares whether he scared of GGG or not!
*Floyd referred to a potential fight against Golovkin as ?Easy work?.
**Floyd held the WBA 154lbs and WBC 154lbs titles from 2012-2014 so the size factor that GGG is bigger than Mayweather and should fight against guys his own size is pure 100% Bullshit.
