History in Philippine boxing is about to unfold in the highly anticipated world title eliminator between two- weight division world champion Johnriel ?Quadro Alas? Casimero and IBF inter-continental super flyweight champion Jonas ?Zorro? Sultan. The Casimero-Sultan encounter is on the undercard of Pinoy Pride 42 ?Clash for Glory" headlining IBF world light flyweight champion Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo?s first title defense against IBO world light flyweight champion Hekkie ?The Hexecutioner? Budler.

The winner of the IBF-mandated Sultan-Casimero fight will become the division?s number one contender, vacant as of now, and will challenge the IBF super flyweight crown currently being held by another Filipino, Jerwin ?Pretty Boy?Ancajas (27-1-1, 18KOs). There was never been an all-Filipino match for a world title since 1925, when Pancho Villa defended his world flyweight title against Clever Sencio. The taboo for a Pinoy vs. Pinoy world title fight will end after 92 years.

Sultan of the ALA Boxing Gym (13-3-0, 9KOs), currently ranked No. 8 by IBF, has won all four of his last fights via knockout, including a second round stoppage of world-ranked Makazole Tete where he won his current title in South Africa last December. Sultan successfully defended his crown with an eight-round knockout of former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro in the latter?s hometown in Angono, Rizal, last May.

Casimero (24-3-0, 15 KOs), the No. 3 IBF contender, has won two world title fights last year after reclaiming his IBF world flyweight crown from then undefeated Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand. He gave British Charlie Edwards his first loss in a successful title defense in Manchester, England. Casimero moved up to the super flyweight division hoping to become a three-division world champion. He won his debut as a super flyweight with a unanimous decision win over Jecker Buhawe last June in Iligan City.

Jerwin Ancajas (27-1-1, 18 KOs) won the International Boxing Federation junior bantamweight championship when he defeated McJoe Arroyo on September 3, 2016 by unanimous decision. He is the first world champion promoted by MP Promotions of Manny Pacquiao. Ancajas battered Teiru Kinoshita and grabbed a TKO victory on the 7th round retaining his IBF title in the undercard of Pacquiao's clash with Jeff Horn in the Battle of Brisbane.

Former middleweight world champion Andy Lee has positive outlooks on the coming match between Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin. At a certain point in his career, Lee was slated to face Golovkin in 2014, but GGG withdrew after the untimely passing of his father. Lee praised the Canelo-GGG fight for making a non-trash talking hype. He says because of this, the contest is not receiving the same type of media attention as Mayweather-McGregor.

Lee thinks that the bout will the best middleweight fight since the legendary encounter between Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler with Leonard winning the middleweight belt from Hagler with a controversial close decision which is still talked about until the present. "There's a media obligation but it's how you choose to whether you take the Mayweather-McGregor route or the Klitschko-Anthony Joshua route. There's many different ways to do it," Lee was quoted by News Talk.

"Next week there's the biggest middleweight fight in I can't remember in how many years," added Lee. "Gennady Golovkin is fighting Saul Alvarez and compared to what happened last week - it's night and day. This is a real, real fight and it's probably one of the best middleweight fights in the last 15 years. Maybe it's the best middleweight fight since Sugar Ray Leonard fought Marvin Hagler.

Marvelous Marvin Hagler was challenged by Sugar Ray Leonard, who was comebacking atop the ring after a three-year retirement, having boxed just once in the previous five years. Leonard was two years younger, had half as many fights than Hagler. The fight took place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on April 6, 1987. Hagler was the 7-1 betting favorite. Hagler, a natural southpaw, opened the fight with an orthodox stance. Leonard won the first two rounds on all three scorecards, so Hagler shifted style in the third round as a southpaw. Hagler boxed better, but Leonard was just too quick and slick with superior skills.

Leonard threw 629 punches and landed 306, while Hagler threw 792 and landed 291. Judge JoJo Guerra's 118-110 scorecard for Leonard was heavily criticized by many quarters. Dave Moretti scored it 115?113 for Leonard, while Lou Filippo had it 115?113 for Hagler for a split decision win and the undisputed middleweight title for Leonard.

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has not shown interest in facing Miguel Cotto if the Mexican wins over middleweight champion Gennady ?GGG? Golovkin on September 16. Canelo?s trainer Eddy Reynoso says a Cotto fight is not in their priority because they already beat him in 2015. So Cotto will hope GGG is going to beat Canelo so that he can possibly schedule a fight against him in December.

Canelo?s promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he would like to match his fighter David Lemieux with Cotto in December. If Cotto agrees to face Lemieux, he would be an ideal stepping stone for the 28-gyear-old former IBF middleweight champion. Lemieux needs Cotto to boost his career to the next level. Lemieux was on a downhill when he was defeated by Golovkin in 2015 in an 8th round TKO at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
