Rapid chessfest gets underway February 22

THE 1st Fiona's Farm Resort 18 & Under Open Chess Tournament is set to unfold on Sunday, February 22 at the Robinsons Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga.

The one-day Swiss System format competition welcomed participants ages 18 years old and below.

Some of the country's young woodpushers are expected to see action in the event organized by the People's Chess Center headed by its President Vicente D. Salomia in close cooperation with NM Homer Cunanan and Coach Joel Valdez.

The champion will win a medal and a cash prize of P4,000, while the runner-up will receive P2,000 and a medal. The third placer will take home P1,000, fourth placers will receive P700, fifth will be given P500 as the seventh to tenth placers with each pocket P300.

Special awardees , such as top 1800, 1750, 1700, 1650, 1600 and 1550 players, and top PCC member will be given P200 apiece.

There will also be 19 and Up Non Master Chess Tournament with the champion getting the lion share of P3,000.

The second to 5th placers will be given P2,000, P1,000, P600, and P400, respectively.

P300 awaits the 6th to 10th placers as well for the top performers in Senior, Female, 1950, 1900 and 1850 in order.

The early registration fee is P300 while the late entry is P400.

Deadline for registration is February 20.
