While the boxing world's attention will be focused on the megafight between Kazakhstan unified middleweight champion Gennady 'Triple G' Golovkin vs Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in Las Vegas on Sep. 16, over in Cebu, IBF world light flyweight champion Milan 'El Metodico' Melindo will make the first defense of his title he won against former long time Japanese champion Akira Yaegashi in Japan last month in a stunning fashion.
ALA Promotions has informed that Melindo will headline 'Pinoy Pride 42' against a yet to be named opponent at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu City.
Melindo (36-2-0, 13KOs) had his two defeats against world champions Juan Francisco Estrada and Javier Mendoza, both Mexicans, when he challenged them for their titles. On his third try, Melindo shocked the boxing world when he sent the highly durable Yaegashi (25-6-0, 13KOs) to the canvas three times in round one en route to a TKO victory in the very first round in front of a stunned Japanese audience at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo, Japan last May 21.
Melindo said he intends to rule the division for a long time. His first opportunity to prove true to his word will come on September 16.
