World Boxing Council president Mauricio Sulaiman has named WBC Emeritus and Diamond champion Ana Maria Torres WBC Female Committee executive director.

Sulaiman explained that ?the exacting, enabling and challenging job is offered to a person absolutely committed to female boxing and the entire sport.?

The WBC president praised Torres as ?a pioneer who always proved her passion, will, good intentions and hard work.?

The WBC website reported that Torres was genuinely surprised by the appointment and indicated ?she didn?t think twice about accepting this new challenge.?

Torres said "I am happy and proud to accept. I will do the best that I can and I will do good things. I will not fail any of my companeras.?

Sulaiman also asked Torres to be supervisor of the WBC light flyweight title bout between Ibeth Zamora and Jessica Chavez scheduled for November 22.

Also known as ?La Guerrera? the 34 year old Torres won the vacant WBC Diamond female bantamweight title with a ten round unanimous decision over Jackie Nava on July 30, 2011 in Chiapas, Mexico with all three judges Len Koivisto, Max DeLuca and Oren Shellenberger turning in identical 96-94 scorecards in favor of Torres. Referee for the fight was Kenny Bayless.Torres successfully defended her WBC female super flyweight title with a unanimous decision win over Marisa Johanna Portillo on October 8, 2011 and defended it again with style in her final bout when Maria Andrea Miranda retired in the 4th round of their title fight on March 31, 2012.
