International Master Eric Labog Jr. rules FIDE rapid chess tourney

International Master Eric Labog Jr. emerged as champion of the Manny Pacquiao Chess Philippines Rapid Chess Tournament-FIDE Rated at the Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City last Sunday, February 1,2026.

Labog finished the 7-round Swiss system competition with 6.5 points on account of six wins and one draw to clinch the title and the P10,000 cash prize.

The Solano, Nueva Vizcaya native Labog scored five straight wins against Leandro Miguel Torrato, Rjay Domingo, Ritchie James Abeleda, Jerome Villanueva and Marc Kevin Labog.

He split the points with National Master Phil Master Casiguran in the sixth round before beating Chester Neil Reyes in the seventh and final round.

"I am very happy with my victories," said Labog, who also won the 1st Tiendesitas Open in Pasig City on Saturday.

Casiguran, Don Tyrone Delos Santos, Jerry Areque, and Jan Clifford Labog occupied the second to fifth spots with identical 6.0 points.

Reyes, FIDE Master Raymond Salcedo and Jhulo Goloran settled for sixth to eight placers with 5.5 points, while Marc Kevin Labog and Mark Gerald Reyes led the huge group of 5.0 pointers.
13 year old Woman Candidate Master Nika Juris Nicolas won the top lady award while Lord Yofiel Young took the top kiddy award.

The highly successful event was jointly organized by Mr. John Salcedo and Mr. Jonas Silvano, held in cooperation with the Greenfield District, it was made possible through the all-out support of former Senator Manny Pacquiao and Kalaro Founder and President Mr. Jun D. Lasco, sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by its chairman/ president former Rep. Prospero Arreza Pichay Jr. and the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) led by its chairman Atty. Francisco Rivera.-Marlon Bernardino-
