Suarez.
Multi-titled lightweight Charly Suarez has won his semi final bout against Jordan?s rugged Odai Riyad Adel Al-Hindawi of Jordan and will now go for gold in the Incheon Asian Games boxing competition tomorrow.
Amateur Boxing Alliance of the Philippines president Ricky Vargas who was at ringside said Suarez won by a split decision and kept his winning streak going against tough opponents, having overcome Iraq?s Amar Hassan in the quarter finals.
Al-Hindawi had earlier beaten Chinba?s Zhou Di handily in the quarter final bout and looked like a legitimate threat but Suarez, using his veteran smarts proved too good and will now continue the Philippines quest to add to the only gold medal won by Randy Caluag on Thursday.
Suarez who gained lots of experience in ferocious battles in the World Series of Boxing used quick movement and one-two combinations to score the win which was a welcome respite for a somewhat battered Philippine contingent.
Later today, light flyweight Olympian Mark Anthony Barriga, bantamweight Mario Fernandez and middleweight Wilfredo Lopez will strive to duplicate the performance of Suarez in their semi final battles against excellent opponents.
