Jaro.
Former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro?s once postponed title shot against WBC super flyweight champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras may have to be postponed once again after Cuadras suffered a nasty cut in his title defense against fellow Mexican Jose Salgado in Sinaloa, Mexico, Sunday Manila time.
Boxing Scene reported that Cuadras suffered a cut running under his left eye and across the bridge of his nose, caused by a head-butt which forced a sudden ending.
As a result Cuadras retained his WBC title in a fourth round technical draw.
Cuadras won the title from Thailand?s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in similar fashion last May with an 8th round technical decision after a clash of heads worsened a nasty gash over the left eyebrow of Cuadras that began with an accidental head-butt in the 4th round and forced referee Jay Nady to c all a h alt on nthe advice of the ring doctor.
They went to the scorecards with Cuadras ahead on all three judges scorecards. Mauro Di Fiore had him ahead 78-73, and Dick Flaherty and Cathy Leonard had Cuadras leading at the time of the stoppage, 77-75.
The manager of Sonny Boy Jaro was first informed that the September 20 title fight against Cuadras had been postponed to November 13 in Washington D.C. An email from Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones Del Pueblo that ?this will be a greater promotion for the benefit of both fighters on a magnificent show.?
At the same time Kuchle said Cuadras would have a tune-up bout on October 20 against Filipino Ric Megrino and ?will be ready for your fight.? Clearly that won?t push through even as Kuchle never mentioned a first title defense against Salgado.
