World Boxing Association featherweight super champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire sparred ten rounds yesterday as he continued tough grind in preparation for his battle with Jamaica?s hard-hitting Nicholas Walters, the WBA regular champion at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on October 18 on the Gennady Golovkin-Marco Antonio Rubio title fight card.

Nonito?s father/trainer Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Nonito sparred with featherweight Guy Robb who has a record of 14-1 with 6 knockouts and tough Luis Sandoval and ?looked very good? in his third sparring session since he began training a couple of weeks and has sparred eight rounds on each occasion at the Donaire Boxing and Fitness Gym in Oakland, California.

What pleased his father/trainer was that ?Nonito?s speed is coming back and his stamina is good.?

He noted that his son, a five division world champion is ?training really hard? and looks at ease both mentally and physically in contrast with the preparation for his title fight against WBA super champion Simpiwe Vetyeka which the Standard noticed was not long enough with a shortage of good sparring.

With three weeks of solid training ahead of him, his father/ trainer believes Nonito will be in top shape for the fight against heavy handed Walters.

While Donaire Sr said they need to watch out for the power shots of Walters who is undefeated with a record of 24-0 with 20 knockouts, he claimed the Jamaican?s ?punches are not quick and are telegraphed.? He said that in contrast ?Nonito is quick and sometimes you can?t see his punches coming? which seemed to indicate that hand-speed would be a factor in the fight.

?Dodong? Donaire also revealed that Nonito has a Russian who is working on ensuring his legs stand up in a possibly rugged fight and that longtime conditioning coach Mike Bassel was also working with Nonito to strengthen his resistance.
