There were boxing mismatches galore over the weekend in Makati, Paranaque and Davao with the Philippine Games and Amusements Board guilty of sanctioning these fights.
Talented MP Promotions fighter and IBF International super flyweight champion Jerwin ?Pretty Boy? Ancajas who has a record of 20-1-1 with 12 knockouts hammered overmatched Indonesian Rochmad Santoso breaking his nose in the process of winning by a 1st round knockout at the crowded Almendras Gym in Davao City.
Santoso?s record of 11-3 with 6 knockouts was misleading since his wins were against certified patsies and he had lost his last fight by a 5th round knockout to Japan?s Taro Oikawa (2-2, 2 KO?s) last December 1.
Among the Indonesian?s other victims was Delo Fernandez over whom Santoso won a six round unanimous decision whose record was 1-1. Santoso also beat Gaspar Ampolo who had a pathetic record of 1-31 on July 23, 2013 prior to which on June 11, 2013, Santoso won an eight round decision over Safwan Lombok whose record was a miserable 1 win against 19 defeats with 1 draw.
At the Elorde complex in Paranaque, 37 year old southpaw Dennis Laurente retained his WBC Asian Boxing Council light middleweight title with a 2nd round TKO over 35 year Indonesian Elly Pangaribuan who had a record of 3-4 with 1 win by KO and three of his four defeats also by knockout.
The grandsons of the late great Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde who reigned as world junior lightweight champion for almost seven-and-a-half years, super featherweight Juan Martin ?Bai? Elorde and featherweight Juan Miguel Elorde also won big against mediocre Indonesian opponents.
?Bai? Elorde won by a 6th round technical decision over Juniston Simbolon who had a record of 7-12-1 with 3 knockouts while Juan Miguel Elorde won by a 5th round TKO over Paulus Baransano who lost his fourth straight bout and didn?t have a single win according to boxrec.com although it must be pointed out that the boxrec.com site isn?t always accurate.
At the Makati Cinema Square boxing arena on Friday, 25 year old Filipino Richard ?Explosive? Claveras who is a decent fighter with a record of 9-2 with 9 knockouts retained his Asian Boxing Council light flyweight title with a 1st round knockout of 18 year old Thai challenger Sangthong Chor Pakdee who had, on the surface, an impressive record of 4-0 with 4 knockouts. But a deeper look revealed that Pakdee won by a 1st round knockout in a scheduled six round bout against countryman Chartchai Sithorbungprsert on May 30, 2012 after which he won by a 3rd round TKO over Kaentpetch Tor Buamas in another scheduled six round bout on November 30, 2012.
Pakdee?s winning streak continued when he won by a 2nd round TKO in a scheduled six round affair over Jitti Korpol on February 27, 2013. All three victims were making their debut.
Pakdee?s fourth TKO win was against Thepyothin Sithdabnid who had a record of no wins as against 2 defeats.
One extremely respected boxing official told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Pakdee was ?worse than a bad amateur fighter? and even worse than Dicky Amtiran, a last minute substitute from Indonesia who was knocked out in the 3rd round by undefeated southpaw Dodie Boy Penalosa Jr for which promoter and former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa apologized after the original opponent Von Armed pulled out due to illness.
