Former World Boxing Council flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro is sparring with IBF flyweight champion and former Olympian Amnat Ruenroeng in Thailand in preparation for his crack at the super flyweight title when he battles undefeated champion Carlos ?Principe? Cuadras on September 20 in Mexico.
The 25 year old Cuadras who won the title with an 8th round technical decision over Thailand?s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last May 31 will be making the first defense of his title against the hard-hitting Jaro, one of the prot?g?s of manager, trainer Aljoe Jaro.
The WBC reports that Cuadras ?is primed to defend his world title for the first time? against Sonny Boy Jaro at a venue to be determined.
The WBC noted that the Pan American medalist ?knows that his first defense of the WBC green and gold belt will not be easy as he will be facing an extremely dangerous opponent.?
Cuadras has an undefeated record of 30 wins, 24 of these by knockout while Jaro has a record of 37 wins, 27 by knockout with 13 defeats and 5 draws.
Sonny Boy?s manager Aljoe Jaro told the Manila Standard that Cuadras is correct because the former world champion is a devastating puncher as shown when he won the flyweight title with a stunning 6th round TKO over longtime champion and WBC ?Fighter of the Year? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on March 2, 2012.
Jaro dropped Pongsaklek once in rounds one and three and twice in round six to score a smashing victory but lost the title in his first defense by a twelve round split decision to Japan?s Toshiyuki Igarashi on July 16, 2012.
Aljoe Jaro said Sonny Boy has been training in Thailand for one month and is scheduled to return on August 21.
Ruenroeng will defend his IBF flyweight title against Puerto Rico?s McWilliams Arroyo who earned the title shot after he scored a 2nd round TKO over previously unbeaten Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar last June 19. Ruenroeng won the vacant title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Rocky Fuentes of the famed ALA Gym last January 22.
Sonny Boy Jaro?s last victory was on June 28 this year when he scored a 6th round TKO over Ichal Tobida after dropping him with a vicious body shot.
