Hard-hitting Filipino southpaw Randy ?Razor? Petalcorin (L) will fight Panama?s Walter Tello (R) for the WBA light flyweight Interim title at the new Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China on August 26.

The 22 year old Petalcorin who has a record of 21-1-1 with 16 knockouts is ranked No. 2 by the WBA while the 27 year old Tello who is ranked No. 6 has a record of 20-7 with 8 knockouts is an experienced fighter who has fought three times for world titles, his last attempt being against Peru?s Alberto Rossel against whom he dropped a close twelve round unanimous decision on March 16, 2013.

Boxingscene.com reported that Rossel was in control but was forced to take a break late in the fight after he was caught by Tello with a very low blow.

Tello was nearly knocked out in the later rounds but held on to give a respectable account of himself.

The three judges scored the fight for Rossel by margins of 118-113, 118-114 and a 120-111 shutout.

Prior to the Rossel fight, Tello faced WBO champion Manuel ?Chango? Vargas for the WBO minimum weight Interim title and lost a twelve round unanimous decision by a wide margin on February 14, 2009 after which he lost by a 3rd round TKO to Giovanni Segura of Mexico on February 20, 2010.

Petalcorin, the reigning Pan Asian Boxing Association champion won the vacant title with an impressive win over Samartlek Kokietgym on April 21, 2012 and battered another Thai boxer, Samransak Singmanasak in his second title defense winning by a 3rd round TKO on November 8, 2013.

In a rematch on March 28 this year Petalcorin scored a 2nd round TKO in a scheduled ten round bout on a card promoted by well-known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis last March 28.

Maniatis co-manages Petalcorin with Jim Manangquil of General Santos City. Maniatis told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that Petalcorin who has adapted well to living in Australia trains hard, three times a day and that he is now ?stronger, better and faster? after working with strength and conditioning coach Mark Russell and trainer Mick Hargreaves.
