Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is upbeat about the title defense of WBO welterweight champion and ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao against undefeated junior welterweight champion Chris Algieri in Macau on November 22.
Arum told the Manila Standard/Viva Sports that everything was going excellently and that Algieri would be in New York until he leaves for China to begin the promotional tour alongside Pacquiao.
He said it was ?interesting? to learn that Pacquiao would train at the classy Azure resort in Bicutan, Taguig for the Algieri fight even as he inquired from us where it was located and what kind of facilities it has for a training camp.
The manager of the Kia expansion team in the Philippine Basketball Association Eric Pineda said they plan to prepare a boxing gym for Pacquiao who could train as playing-coach also work out with the basketball team which would be convenient.
Arum said he agreed with well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis that ?it is not an easy fight? pointing out that besides having a height and reach advantage over Pacquiao, Algieri ?moves very well.?
At the same time the Top Rank promoter said he would be meeting with the HBO people in Las Vegas at the end of this week to discuss a date for the next fight of five-division world champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire.
He also informed the Standard that Chinese two-time Olympian Zou Shiming who is unbeaten in five fights as a pro will fight an eliminator against a Thai fighter with an impressive record before facing the winner of the IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng?s title defense against Puerto Rico?s McWilliams Arroyo who earlier scored a 2nd round knockout over previously undefeated Filipino Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar.
