Plans for popular former Chinese two-time Olympic gold medalist and undefeated pro Zou Shiming will have to wait.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum had earlier told the Manila Standard there were plans to promote a Zou Shiming title fight against IBF flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng of Thailand in Macau later this year.
However, the Thai champion who won the vacant title from the Philippines Rocky Fuentes and then defeated Japan?s previously unbeaten Kazuto Ioka, will defend his title against Puerto Rico?s McWilliams Arroyo in Nakhon Ratchasima province on September 14.
Arroyo earned the title shot with a stunning 2nd round knockout of previously undefeated Filipino Froilan Saludar in Puerto Rico.
Arum who said former WBO/WBA champion Brian Viloria would likely get a title shot at Zou Shiming should he win the title will have to figure out how to keep the two fighters busy.
Ruenroeng?s handlers won the purse bid for the Arroyo title defense after they bid over $200,000 which was aimed at making sure the fight would be held in Thailand where it is tough to win.
Should Amnat win, his handlers are looking to a financially rewarding fight against Zou Shiming in Macau.
