Former WBO/WBA flyweight champion Brian Viloria is in great condition for his clash with Mexico?s Jose Alfredo Zuniga at the plush Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Macau on July 19.
Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach?s talented Filipino assistant Marvin Somodio told the Manila Standard that Viloria has been training hard and his ?preparation for the fight has been very good.?
Somodio who is working with Viloria said the former two division world champion ?is in great condition and it showed in his work on the punch mitts.?
He said Viloria?s sparring against a number of talented fighters including Mexican super flyweight Ricardo Rodriguez who has a record of 9-1 with 3 knockouts ?has gone very well. Brian is ready.?
Somodio revealed that he is currently busy working with Glen Tapia, Antonio Di Marco and Frankie Gomez and couldn?t leave them but said Roach will be there along with Ruben Gomez who will be in Viloria?s corner when he faces Zuniga.
Roach will be busy with undefeated former two-time Olympic gold medalist Zou Shiming and unbeaten Russian light heavyweight Egor Mekhonstev who has a record of 3 knockouts in three wins.
In his first comeback fight after losing his titles to Juan Francisco Estrada by a split decision in Macau, the 33 year old Viloria showed a littlemring rust but won a comfortable ten round decision over Juan Herrera to up his record to 33-4 with 19 knockouts.
Zuniga who is eight years younger than Viloria has a record of 11-5-1 with 5 knockouts. He won the WBC International Silver title with a tweve round unanimous decision iver Luis Ceja in June 8, 2013 but then lost by a majority decision in a WBA light flyweight title fight against Peruvian champion Alberto Rossel on September 28, 2013.
