Marlon Tapales, the 22 year old prot?g? of Rex ?Wakee Salud has retained his WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title with an impressive twelve round unanimous decision over tough and durable Tanzanian challenger Fadhili Majiha in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte.
Tapales who dropped Majiha in the sixth round, won comfortably on the scorecards of all three judges. Salven Lagumbay and Tony Pesons both scored it for Tapales 117-110 while Roel Densing had Tapales the winner by a wider 119-108 margin.
With the win Tapales improved to 26-2 with 9 knockouts while the 20 year old Majiha dropped to 15-4-4 with 7 knockouts.
Wakee Salud told the Manila Standard that the Tanzanian was ?a very good fighter who was fast and durable.?
On the other hand Salud said Tapales ?has a big heart and can hit but doesn?t want to get hit.?
Salud confided that he wants to have Tapales fight in Macau on one of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum?s cards but that Manny Pacquiao?s adviser Michael Koncz is a stumbling block because he insists on signing up any fighter who appears on a Top Rank card with MP Promotions which Koncz handles for Pacquiao and he is not prepared to do that.
Koncz? insistence that Arum adhere to an existing agreement with MP Promotions has also prevented promising fighters from the ALA Promotions stable see action on Top Rank fight cards.
Tapales won a six round majority decision over Alejandro Solorio on May 6, 2011 at the Mandalay Bay Resort Hotel and Casino.
