Buoyed by his fighter, former world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro?s 5th round knockout of Tanzania?s Ichal Tobida in a fight card at the Almendras Gym in Davao City, manager/trainer and former boxer Aljoe Jaro plans to negotiate for a title fight against newly crowned super flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras of Mexico.

Aljoe Jaro told the Manila Standard that Sonny Boy fought a good fight against Tobida and his punching power is still his biggest asset.

With the win Sonny Boy Jaro who is ranked No. 12 by the WBC is certain to go up in the ratings even as his record improved to 37-14-5 with 27 knockouts.

Sonny Boy is best remembered for his stunning 6th round TKO victory over long-reigning champion and WBC ?Fighter of the Year? Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on March 2, 2012 although he lost the title in his first defense in a somewhat controversial twelve round split decision to Japan?s Toshiyuki Igarashi.

Cuadras, who was rated No. 2 by Ring Magazine, won the title with an 8th round technical decision over No. 3 ranked Srisaket Sor Rungvisai of Thailand in Mexico with all three judges scoring the fight for the Mexican by margins of 78-73, 77-74 and 77-75.

Cuadras used his hand-speed to take an early lead which helped him in the end when a head-butt worsened a cut over his left eye forcing the ringside doctor to recommend that the fight be stopped.

The Thai fighter had been deducted a point for an earlier head-butt.
