Former WBO/WBA world flyweight champion Brian Viloria says he ?can?t wait? to get into the ring for his scheduled fight at the Cotai Arena of the plush Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Macau on July 19.
It was the same venue where he lost his title by a twelve round split decision to Mexico?s Juan Francisco Estrada on April 6, 2013.
Viloria had won the WBA title with a rousing 10th round TKO over Mexico?s Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez whom he dropped in rounds one, five and ten en route to the big win in an action-packed fight.
Since his loss to Estrada, Viloria came back to score a comfortable ten round unanimous decision over Juan Herrera, hurting Herrera with a right to the head and using his patented left hook effectively to win by scores of 98-92 on the card of two judges and 97-93 on the third.
Viloria told the Manila Standard that ?training is going great, just perfect? at the Wild Card Gym of Freddie Roach where Viloria works with Roach?s Filipino assistant Marvin Somodio.
The 33 year old former world champion who has a record of 33-4 with 19 knockouts told the Standard he has been ?sparring a whole lot? with Mexican super flyweight Ricardo Rodriguez (9-1, 3 KO's) and another tough fighter whose name he couldn?t recall.
Although no opponent for his July 19 fight has been named as yet, Viloria said Top Rank matchmakers are ?still trying to lock that down right now. I?m waiting for the green light because I feel great and can?t wait to get back into the ring.?
He said there are no problems with his weight and ?everything is like clockwork.?
Viloria also said his first born son by wife Erika Navarro, a nurse in Los Angeles, is ?healthy and happy and getting big.?
He also disclosed that trainer Somodio ?is doing great and is happy and really busy? having recently worked with Ruslan Provodnikov and Miguel Cotto.
