Cebu City, June 20 -- The Pagara brothers, junior welterweight Jason and junior featherweight Prince Abert as well as their Mexican opponents easily made the weight for their confrontation in "The Fists Of The Future" on the 26th edition of the tremendously successful ALA Promotions presentation at the plush Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel and Casino here in Cebu on Saturday evening.
The only real problem is for all four fighters to keep their promise to win by knockout.
At the official weigh-in at Robinson's Fuente a huge crowd witnessed the event with many fight fans telling the Manila Standard they were happy that after several months ALA Promotions and partners, ABS-CBN had decided to return t the hotbed of boxing with two of the most promising young fighters matched against legitimate Mexican warriors.
While Pagara and his opponent Mario "Rocky"Meraz showed no ill-temper during their face-off Hugo "Olimpico" Partida had to be restrained by his trainer Agsin Vazquez De La Cruz and IBF supervisor of the Intercontinental title fight between Partida and Prince Albert Pagara when the Mexican head-butted the young Pagara and even attempted to punch him drawing a roar from the onlookers and an indication of the storied and sometimes bitter rivalry in the ring between Mexico and the Philippines.
Jason Pagara told the Manila Standard that he had studied fight tapes of Meraz and expects to knock him out while Meraz conceded that while Jason was an "intelligent and strong fighter" he is determined to bring the WBO Interational 140 pound title back to Mexico and is looking to win by a knockout.
Prince Albert, fired up by Partida's tactics at the weigh-in is determined to make the Mexican pay with an early knockout.
It promises to be a night of knockouts as hard-hitting southpaw Jimrez "The Executioner" Jaca is determined to avenge what he strongly believes was a hometown decision in Japan by knocking out his Japanese opponent Msayoshi Kotake in an eight round junior welterweight bout.
Also in a knockout frame of mind is former world title challenger AJ "Bazooka" Banal who vows to prove that he is back by firing his heavy artillery from a southpaw stance against Indonesia's Defry "The Hammer" Palulu.
The fights of the Pagara brothers will be telcast on ABS-CBN Channel 2 at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday .
