Meraz (L) and Partida (R).
Two Mexican warriors who will challenge the brothers Jason ?El Nino? Pagara and ?Prince Albert? Pagara at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in the incredibly successful ?Pinoy Pride? series on Saturday are determined to stop the winning streak of the brothers and to reverse the trend of Mexican defeats in recent months.
Rugged Mario ?Rocky? Meraz who has an impressive record of 16 knockouts in 20 wins with three losses is exp0ected to provide WBO International junior welterweight champion Jason Pagara with a stiff test.
Meraz is coming off a ten round unanimous decision over Javier Carrera whom he dropped in the opening round last May 14 but was himself dropped in round four during a furious exchange.
Carrera, the WBF North American welterweight champion gave Meraz all he could handle in a fight that was described as one with high-paced, back and forth action? highlighted by the fact that both Meraz and Carrera scored knockdowns.
Meraz showed his boxing skills against Carrera and often connected with good combinations and while Carrera appeared to land the more powerful punches, he rarely followed up.
Both fighters reportedly put on a great show for the jubilant fans at ringside and the fight itself was touted as one of the best in Ensenada, Mexico this year.
Meraz and his fellow Mexican Hugo Partida who takes on undefeated ?Prince Albert? Pagara in a clash for the vacant IBF Intercontinental super bantamweight title are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.
Partida, the WBC FECARBOX Interim champion with a record of 21-4-2 including 16 knockouts has vowed to inflict the first loss of the young Pagara who has a record of 20-0 with 14 knockouts.
Reports received by the Standard from Mexico state that Partida is a strong fighter and someone who comes to fight which is typical of Mexican warriors.
ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer whose outfit will team-up with the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN which will telecast the fights on Sunday said the Pagara brothers ?look really good and Albert is in particularly good shape and looks very sharp.?
He said the younger Pagara knows this is his biggest fight so far and is determined to put on a show while Jason (33-3, 20 KO?s) has learned from his loss to Rosbel Montoya which he avenged in a rematch and is sharply focused for his showdown with Meraz.
