?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona gets the chance of a lifetime when he faces former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr of Puerto Rico in a ten round bout at the famed Madison Square Garden on Saturday, June 7 which is Sunday June 8 in Manila.

Fighting at Madison Square Garden is in itself an honor but the privilege of fighting on the undercard of the world middleweight title fight between Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez of Argentina and Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico is an added bonus for the young southpaw from General Santos City.

Viva Sports will bring boxing fans a one hour pre-fight special on what may well be a career defining fight for Sonsona on Pinoy Box Office (PBO) over SkyCable at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Sonsona, the former WBO super flyweight champion won the title in an impressive performance against Jose ?Carita? Lopez of Puerto Rico in Ontario, Canada after dropping Lopez once en route to a unanimous twelve round decision.

However, when he moved up two weight divisions to super bantamweight to face Vazquez Jr for the title in Puerto Rico, Sonsona got careless, was caught on the ropes and knocked out in the fourth round.

He has clearly learned his lessons from that loss and has won four fights in a row culminating in a smashing 3rd round knockout of former world bantamweight champion Akifumi Shimoda to win the North American Boxing Federation title in Macau last February 22.

The special will include a flashback to that victory plus several other previous fights in which the lanky southpaw demonstrated his punching power.

Since his huge win over highly favored former world super bantamweight champion Akifumi Shimoda of Japan, Marvin Sonsona has realized the opportunities for a second world title depends entirely on his attitude.

We covered several of his training sessions for The Main Event and knew that Sonsona himself was aware that he is being given the chance of a lifetime to appear in a huge Top Rank card at Madison Square Garden with a chance to avenge his disappointing loss to Vazquez Jr in Puerto Rico on February 27, 2010.

We noted how hard Marvin worked under the hard-driving veteran trainer Jun Agrabio.

Highlights of his tough sparring sessions with World No. 7 ranked superb featherweight Padjai Yomngyuthgym of Thailand and local sluggers Junel Alivio and Edgardo Gabejan as well as Sonsona working the punch-mitts with Agrabio are part of the special which will also feature interviews with Sonsona and trainer Jun Agrabio.
