Undefeated Jessebelle Pagaduan of the K2 Gym in Malabon suffered her first defeat when she dropped a unanimous ten round decision to Japanese boxer Nao Ikeyama in a battle for the inaugural World Boxing Organization Atomweight Championship in Osaka, Japan.
All three judges, Japan?s Katsuhiko Nakamura (99-91), Thailand?s Surat Soikrachang (98-92) and the Philippines Salven Lagumbay (99-91) scored the fight for Ikeyama.
The 29 year old southpaw Pagaduan dropped to 6-1 with 4 knockouts while the 44 year old Ikeyama improved to 14-3-1 with 4 knockouts.
Hall of Fame media man, matchmaker and boxing commentator Joe Koizumi reported that Ikeyama kept throwing punches continuously although Pagaduan dominated the opening round.
Koizumi said Ikeyama battered the game Filipina from the second round onwards, connecting with shots to the body and head and said Filipino referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan might have stopped what he described as the one-sided contest in the 9th round when Ikeyama caught the fading Pagaduan with a two-fisted attack.
Pagaduan who stands five feet tall won the vacant Philippine female minimum weight title with a 3rd round TKO over the unbeaten Carleans Rivas on July 27, 2013 while Ikeyama lost a unanimous ten round decision in a International Female Boxing Association title fight to Ji Hyun Park of South Korea on August 15, 2010.
The Japanese girl was coming off a six round majority decision over Mika Iwakawa on December 14, 2013.
