WBO light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes who scored a spectacular 9th round TKO victory over mandatory challenger and Interim champion Moises Fuentes at the Mall of Asia Arena last Saturday will receive his coveted Ring Magazine belt at his next title defense.

The Manila Standard learned that Ring Magazine?s Anson Wainwright had congratulated ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer who is attending the IBF convention in New Jersey and informed him that he would like to present the Ring belt to Nietes at his next title defense.

Among the other notable lineal champions are Pancho Villa, Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde, Manny Pacquiao and Sonny Boy Jaro.
Former Ring Magazine Editor-in-Chief Nigel Collins visited Manila in 2003 as guest of then Manila Mayor Lito Atienza and Viva Sports chairman Vic del Rosario and handed the belt to Pacquiao at an elaborate Malacanang ceremony attended by then President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

The specially crafted belt cost some $2,500 and is treasured by fighters who earn it.
