?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona battles former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo ?Papito? Vazquez Jr of Puerto Rico on the undercard of the Sergio ?Maravilla? Martinez ? Miguel Cotto WBC middleweight title fight at famed Madison Square Garden on June 7.

Sonsona's manager Dr. Rajan Yraola told the Manila Standard that Sonsona has already been in Manila for some two weeks and begun light training at the gym of his manager in Quezon City.

The fight is regarded as a huge break for Sonsona thanks to his international promoter Sampson Lewkowicz who also handles Martinez.

Sonsona lost by a 4th round knockout when he first faced Vazquez Jr in Puerto Rico on February 27, 2010 after he got careless and was caught on the ropes but since that loss the 23 year old southpaw has won four fights in a row including a spectacular 3rd round knockout of former world champion Akifumi Shimoda of Japan to win the WBO International featherweight title.

Sonsona, the lanky southpaw with a vicious left hook, had earlier scored a ten round unanimous decision over Carlos Jacobo on October 15, 2011 followed by a 5th round knockout of Carlos Fulgencio on March 17, 2012 and forced Jason Egera to retire in the 8th round of a scheduled ten round bout on September 7, 2013.

Sonsona who trained relentlessly for the Shimoda fight, has vowed to mend his wild and wooly ways and to concentrate on his promising ring career.

Vazquez, on the other hand, has lost three of his last four fights. Including a stunning 12th round TKO to Jorge Arce in a WBO super bantamweight title defense on May 7, 2011, a twelve round split decision to Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire on February 4, 2012 in a clash for the vacant WBO super bantamweight title and a ten round majority decision to Japan?s Yasutaka Ishimoto on April 6, 2013.

However, the 29 year old Vazquez Jr who has a record of 23-3-1 with 9 knockouts, won his last fight against previously undefeated prospect Guillermo Avila in Florida to win the WBO International super bantamweight title in a tough fight where Avila brought the pressure and mostly gave as good as he got.
