Determined to use every opportunity to train while waiting for his father/trainer Nonito ?Dodong? Donaire Sr to arrive on April 12, to officially begin his training camp, Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire worked out at the Elorde Gym at Home Depot in Ortigas after an interview with ABS-CBN for a pre-fight primer on his WBA world title fight against South African champion Simpiwe Vetyeka in Macau on May 31.
Donaire shadow-boxed and then hammered the heavy bag with vicious combinations during which he demonstrated remarkable hand-speed which is expected to be a key factor in his title fight against Vetyeka.
Donaire told the Manila Standard that the fight against Veyteka "is never easy because he is a world champion for a reason and it's going to be a very important fight to mark the fifth division I am fighting in and on top of that its a world championship."
Donaire said he is motivated by the fact that should he win against Vetyeka, then there is a strong possibility for a unification title fight against the winner of the separate championship showdowns featuring WBA champion Nicholas Walters and IBF champion Evgeny Gradovich on the same card.
He said ?there is definitely a possibility of the winners meeting and that is why they are putting all the featherweights in this card. You know me, I seek to fight everyone and always want to unify (the titles) because I believe there should only be one champion. That?s the goal.?
Donaire said he is sure ?his spirits will be lifted when he trains at the Elorde Gym along Sucat Road in Paranaque with all the fans having a chance to watch him? as they did on Sunday at the Home Depot workout, posing for photos and getting his autograph.
The four division champion recalled that when nobody really knew him he trained in the Philippines but it is different now after he earned recognition as a four division world champion and 2012 ?Fighter of the Year.?
Donaire said ?I am really happy because I finally get to train here at this level. It?s so much easier here besides there are so many good sparring partners. The whole training camp package is complete.?
