JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR SCORES EMPHATIC WIN IN REMATCH WITH VERA

While their first fight which Julio Cesar Chavez Jr won in controversial fashion over Brandon Vera, this time around the son of the legendary Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez made no mistake by hammering out a unanimous twelve round decision in their rematch at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
The bigger Chavez, former WBC middleweight champion who appeared in much better condition than in their first clash, landed the more telling blows and hurt Vera on a couple of occasions but failed to score a knockdown.
Referee Rafael Ramos inexplicably deducted a point from Vera for pushing Chavez? head down in round eight but despite this the game Vera kept coming back.
If not for the point deduction Vera would have earned a 114-114 draw on the scorecard of David Sutherland which ended 114-113 but judges MaxDeluca and Ruben Carrion had Chavez Jr a comfortable winner 117-110.
In his second pro fight, celebrated two-time Olympic gold medalist Vasyl Lomachenko failed to win the vacant WBO featherweight title against former world champion Orlando Salido, who won a split decision but lost his title on the scale after failing to make the weight and entered the ring som 20 pounds heavier than Lomachenko.
Salido used his experience and solid body shots to overcome Lomachenko who staged a furious rally in the championship rounds but it was too little, too late.
Referee Laurence Cole who often gets prized assignments because of his father?s influence with the Texas Commission and is often criticized for his poor performance as the third man in the ring, allowed Salido to get away with a number of low blows.
Salido eventually won a twelve round split decision by scores of 115-113, 116-112 on two cards while Lomachenko was ahead 115-113 on the third.
