Promising Marlon Tapales, the No. 3 ranked Philippine bantamweight, outpointed tough Indonesian Galih Susanto over ten rounds in the main event of a fight card put together by MP Promotions and Joven Promotions in cooperation with the Royal Mandaya Hotel at the Almedras Gym on Saturday.
Despite dropping Susanto in the 9th round, Tapales was unable to take out the Indonesian who, according to MP Promotions representative Joe Ramos was ?on survival mode most of the fight after feeling Tapales? power in the early rounds.?
The 21 year old Tapales improved to 24-2 with 9 knockouts while Susanto dropped to 16-5-1 with 9 knockouts.
The southpaw Tapales who won the WBO Asia Pacific bantamweight title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Fredirex Rodriguez on August 1, 2013, made a name for himself when he put on an impressive performance against Mexico?s hard-hitting David Sanchez in a battle for the Interim WBC Silver super flyweight title which Tapales lost in a hugely controversial majority decision.
Sanchez in his last fight scored a 4th round knockout over rugged Marco Demecillo in a battle for the WBA International super flyweight title in Mexico on January 18, 2014.
In what Ramos said was the fight of the night, Edward Mancito won a split decision in an eight round bout over Kenny Demecillo in a war where both fighters were down in back-and-forth action.
Mancito was the aggressor early in the fight and dropped Demecillo in the first and second rounds while the tough Demecillo came back to drop Mancito in the fifth with Mancito nearly out on his feet in the 6th. However Mancito rallied in the late rounds to escape with a split decision.
With the win the 21 year old super bantamweight moved to 9-1-2 with 5 knockouts while Demecillo fell to 6-2-1 with 3 knockouts
Veteran super bantamweight Rey "StingRay" Las Pinas was held to a majority draw over ten rounds by Johny Gimeno who dropped Las Pinas in the 1st and 9th rounds but the veteran used his experience and ring generalship throughout the fight to win the middle rounds and even things up.
The 27 year old Las Pinas' record now stands at 18-8-5 with 11 knockouts while Gemino is at 10--2-1 with 4 knockouts.
?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao?s nephew Jonel Dapidran retained his undefeated three-fight streak by scoring his first knockout win over Joefil Camocamo.
Dapidran showed improvement in his ability to throw combinations as well as displaying patience.
