LORETO WINS IBO JR. FLYWEIGHT TITLE WITH STUNNING 3RD ROUND KO OF JOYI

In what must be considered a stunning upset IBO No. 30 ranked Filipino Rey ?Hitman? Loreto has won the world light flyweight title with a vicious 3rd round knockout of former IBF/IBO minimum weight champion and No. 2 ranked Nkosinathi Joyi of South Africa in Monte Carlo.

Super Sport South Africa reported that Joyi?s career ?took a huge knock when Loreto knocked him stone cold in the third round.?

In what many thought would be a easy win for Joyi because of the huge disparity in rankings and fight records, Loreto proved that a puncher always had a chance and the little Filipino proved it.
South African referee Andile Matika waved off the fight at 49 seconds of the third round, and the South African was still on the canvas for several minutes.

The bigger and concededly more experienced Joyi made the mistake of not keeping up his guard and Loreto grabbed the opportunity to have the South African in serious trouble at the end of the second round after Loreto nailed him with three solid lefts to the head.

Joyi, a former IBF and IBO mini-flyweight champion, was trying to win a third ?world? title but walked into a rank outsider who seized the opportunity when the South African failed to keep up his guard.

Joyi was wobbly at the start of the third round when Loreto caught him with a thundering left that sent Joyi crashing to the canvas.

With the shocking win Loreto improved to 17-13 with 9 knockouts while Joyi dropped to 24-3 with 17 knockouts. The new champion?s record improved to 17-13, with 9 wins inside the distance.
Super Sports reported the clash between two southpaws ? one tall and calm and the other one stocky and busy ? was off to an uneventful start but it soon became clear that Joyi?s defence was letting him down.

His jab and a series of body blows did not keep Loreto at a distance and the hero of Mdantsane near East London might have paid the price for not showing his opponent enough respect.
Joyi who has beaten several Filipinos in the past including former IBF world minimum weight champion Florante ?Little Pacquiao? Condes was coming off a 9th round knockout win over Filipino Benezer Alolod last August 31, 2013 following a split decision loss to Hekkie Budler, the IBO minimum weight champion.

Alolod had earlier beaten Loreto by a 7th round split decision in a WBC International light flyweight title fight when an accidental head-butt forced a stoppage.

Loreto who is managed by Brico Santig and trained by Joven Jorda was coming off a 10th round technical decision over Thailand?s Pornsawan Porpramook in a clash for the Interim Pan Asia Boxing Association light flyweight title last August 23, 2013 when Porpramook was cut after an accidental clash of heads.
