Efren 'Bata' Reyes wins one pocket in Indiana tourney

MANILA, Philippines -- FILIPINO billiards master Efren ?Bata? Reyes flashed his vintage form by winning the 16th annual Derby City Classic?s One Pocket division yesterday at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Elizabeth, Indiana, USA. The win was Reyes' 7th time winning this prestigious title.

Reyes' smashing 3-1 win over American Shannon Daulton in the finals earned him $12,000 and keeps him in the running for the $20,000 "Master of the Table" title, which is awarded to the top player across the Bank Pool, One Pocket and 9-Ball Divisions.

Daulton, on the other hand received runner-up purse of $6,000.

In a field that featured 298 players, the 59-year-old Reyes was the only player to not suffer a loss. The unique buyback format would have allowed Reyes to buy back in the event had he lost the first match and face Daulton again.

Reyes' long-time supporter sportsman/businessman Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, acknowledged Philippine Billiards God Father, congratulated Reyes for winning the 16th annual Derby City Classic?s One Pocket division." Just last month, Reyes won a bronze medal in the carom event of the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.-Marlon Bernardino-
