International Master Christian Gian Karlo Tade-Arca finished in eight place in the just ended Manny Pacquiao International Open dubbed as 87th Kalilangan Chess Festival 2026 Open being held at the Family Country Hotel in General Santos City.
The Zamboanga City based Arca had five wins, two draws and two losses at the end of the week-long tournament that ended last Friday.
He, and ninth placer compatriot GM Daniel Quizon and tenth placer IM Arif Abdul Hafiz of Indonesia had identical scores but Arca had a better quotient.
Actually Arca had a chance to win the title but was beaten in the ninth and final round with eventual champion GM Peng Li Min of Switzerland.
"It was a difficult match," said the 17 years old Arca, whose campaign is fully supported by the tournament sponsor itself, former Senator Manny Pacquiao.
After 9 rounds of play, Peng and GM Platon Galperin were deadlocked at 7.0 points, but Peng's superior tie breaks earned him the trophy and the top prize of $20,000.
Meanwhile, NM Keith Adriane Ilar took the trophy and the P100 , 000 top purse,winning the Challenger section with 8 wins and 1 loss.
Organized by Pacman Chess Association, the five-day Standard (90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment time control format) backed up by former Senator Manny Pacquiao.
The tournament Director is Orly Ortega while Chief Arbiter IA James Infiesto is assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Michael Joseph Pagaran and FA Margie Narcilla.-Marlon Bernardino-
