FILIPINO boxing idol Manny Pacquiao will finally start today his training for his upcoming April 14 showdown against world-rated Mexican Jorge Solis at the ABAP boxing gym in General Santos City.

Pacquiao?s Filipino trainer Buboy Fernandez and assistant
trainer-nutritionist Raides ?Nonoy? Neri will handle it in the absence of chief trainer Freddie Roach.

?Balik training ulit kami,? said Neri during the championship day of the Manny Pacquiao Cup 7-cock derby last Friday at the New Matina Gallera in Davao City.

Pacquiao?s entry emerged co-champion with three other entries of the P2 million derby.

Pacquiao will train here until the end of the month before they will fly to the US. Roach has earlier invited Pacquiao to come to Puerto Rico and train with him there together with Oscar dela Hoya.

Pacquiao, however, has not yet made up his mind. But if he will be at the Wild Card gym in the US, Roach?s assistant and conditioner Justin Fortune is expected to train and be chief second for Pacquiao at the Alamodome in Texas.

The 27-year old Mexican super featherweight Solis has a ring record of 32 wins with no loss and two draws with 23 KOs. But Roach still has to see a tape of Solis.

Pacquiao, who confirmed he would run against incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonino Custodio in South Cotabato, has yet to file his candidacy on or before March 29.

Pacquiao and Roach were named Fighter of the Year and Trainer of the Year, respectively by the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA).
