DAVAO CITY (PNA) Nov. 29 -- The World Boxing Organization (WBO) announced Thursday that it will also donate US$10,000 to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Leyte in December.
This was bared Thursday by WBO vice-president for Asia Pacific region Leon Panoncillo during the press conference of the Pinoy Pride XXIII held at the Gloriamaris Banquet Hall in Quezon City.
?This is a time to give back to the community. This is when we should do our share,? said Panoncillo, who is supervising the Pinoy Pride XXIII.
WBO through its president Francisco ?Paco? Valcarcel will donate $10,000 towards relief efforts for victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) especially the children in the affected areas.
?The WBO is deeply concerned for the people of the Philippines affected by the Typhoon Haiyan. We are joining this major relief effort by making a donation in the amount of $10,000-particularly to help children with emergency food and water. We hope others will join too and help alleviate some of the suffering,? the WBO stated.
The WBO is one of the major sanctioning bodies with strong relations to Philippine boxing.
?With this gesture, the WBO becomes the first boxing organization to take up the initiative for the Filipino typhoon victims,? said Filipino WBO boxing judge Salven Lagumbay.
Panoncillo announced also the WBO referees and judges that will handle the two world title fights.

The judges are lawyer Danrex Tapdasan of the Philippines, and Reiss and Mart?nez.
American referee Jack Reiss of the United States will be the third man on the ring when WBO minimumweight champion Merlito Sabillo (23-0, 12 KOs) defends his title against Nicaraguan challenger Carlos ?Chocorroncito? Buitrago (27-0, 16 KOs) in the main supporting event.
