UNETHICAL ACTION OF GAB BOXING DIVISION CHIEF CONDEMNED

Dr Cruz.
The patently unethical if not illegal action of the Games and Amusements Board boxing division chief Dr. Nasser Cruz when he worked in the corner of Chinese boxer Rex Tso during the ?Clash in Cotai? headlined by Manny Pacquiao?s smashing victory over Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios last Sunday should be investigated immediately by GAB chairman Monchu Guanzon and the necessary sanctions meted out.

Dr. Cruz as a top official of the GAB had no right whatsoever to serve in the corner of a foreign fighter which was, in itself, a stark example of conflict of interest considering that two other Filipinos ? Dan Nazareno and Harmonito De La Torre also fought on the same card and Dr. Cruz didn?t assist them.

He reportedly served as a cut-man for Rex Tso which also raises the question on when Dr. Cruz obtained his license as a cut-man and whether indeed he was qualified to act as such.

The bottom line is that the Boxing Division head traveled to Macao at government expense which means taxpayers money, and for taxpayers to bear the burden of his travel and other expenses to assist a Chinese fighter is unacceptable.

Too long has Dr. Cruz lorded it over at the Boxing Division and made numerous seriously questionable decisions covering mismatches and similar anomalies. But his appearance in the corner of Rex Tso, wearing the same colors as the fighter is unforgivable.

Since Chairman Guanzon always trumpets the fact that the GAB is under the Office of the President and must therefore be careful in everything it does, this is a classic example of a serious violation of that unwritten policy.

It would be interesting to find out what the GAB Chairman or indeed the Office of the President will do with regard to this fundamental violation of what is proper, by Dr. Cruz.

As one of the many text messages we received while doing the fight coverage for The Filipino Challen of ABS-CBN at ringside in Macao stated. ?Since when did the GAB Chief of Boxing Division become a member of Team Tso, a Chinese national? To make matters worse Nasser Cruz was wearing the same uniform of Team Tso. What the hell was he doing in the corner of a Chinese boxer? UNBELIEVABLE!?

Another text message stated ?what a black eye for Philippine boxing. I don?t know how Dr. Cruz can ever justify what he did.?
