Philippine Davis Cup star and doubles specialist Treat Huey has combined with Britain?s Dominic Inglot to win the Men?s Doubles title at the Swiss Indoor Championships in Basel.
It was the Fil-British pair?s second ATP World Tour title and their sixth final which keeps their chances of making it into the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals alive.
Huey and Inglot moved up to the eleventh spot in the Emirates ATP Doubles Team Rankings with their 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 victory over the tandem of Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach in a match that lasted one hour and five minutes.
ATP reported that Huey and Inglot broke serve once in the sixth game of the 26-minute first set. They lost five service points and saved all four break points they faced. Knowle and Marach broke at the same stage in the second set and won 17 of their 18 first service points.
Huey and Inglot won four of the first five points in the Match tie-break en route to their 29th victory of the year (29-13 overall). The duo beat second seeds and fellow London contenders Aisam ?Ul-Haq Quereshi and Jean-Julien Roger in the first round.
The ATP story said the Barclays World Tour Finals will be held at the 02 in London from November 4 to 11.
In a post match interview, Inglot was quoted as saying ?It is such a great feeling to have won a title again, after not having won one this year. We left it late, but better late than never. We worked on a few things during the summer and I think it is paying off in the fall, winter.?
Inglot added, It feels amazing. We really enjoy this tournament, but we came out knowing we had to defend a final. It can put pressure on you. I was not hitting the ball that great, but Treat has been pushing me hard. ?We got a good win in the first round against Qureshi and Rojer and I think that set us nicely for this tournament.?
The ATP reported that Huey and Inglot, who were beaten in two finals this year ? at the Power H Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany and the Winston-Salem Open shared prize money of around $142,000 besides earning 500 Emirates ATP Ranking points.
The 28 year old Huey who is a mainstay on the Philippine Davis Cup squad has a lifetime record of 2-7 in title matches while Inglot improved to 2-5 in finals overall.
The Fil-American star said ?We are off to Paris tonight on the train and we?ll hopefully have a good week there.?
Huey and Inglot will play Fabio Fognini and Andreas Seppi in the BNP Paribas Masyers first round in Paris this week.
