FIRST EVER BOXING WORLD CUP OPENS FRIDAY

The dream of World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman who is recovering well from heart surgery and the WBC family which has worked incredibly hard to make the Boxing World Cup a reality, opens on Friday at the Juan de La Barrera Gym in Mexico City and the WBC website reported ?it's a cracker!?

WBC Silver lightweight Champion Daniel Estrada, who is ranked No. 1 battles Walter Estrada while multi talented Cuban heavyweight Odlanier Solis will face powerful Carlos Takam from Cameroon, but is based in France.

Takam said he is ?dedicating the fight to the inspiration, vision and leadership of Don Jose.?

The WBC reported that the launch to announce this ongoing extravaganza was at Sport City Eureka in Colonia San Pedro de Los Pinos with an array of all time greats including: Lupe Pintor, Rafael Herrera, Ultiminio Ramos, Gabriel Bernal, Cesar Bazan and Isaac "Tortas" Bustos among those who attended.

The fighters in the heavyweight, welterweight, lightweight and featherweight divisions will wear Cleto Reyes gloves, adorned with a unique design incorporating the flags of nations. The overall prize money exceeds four million dollars.

Among the countries that will host the WBCX Boxing World Cup are Mexico, Argentina, the USA, Thailand, Morocco and Russia. Millions around the World will see the fights thanks to Televisa, Fox Sports, Fox Deportes, Alba Vision and TDN.

The Grand Finals will be held in May and June of next year.
