One of Miguel Cotto?s goals is to earn a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr who beat him by a twelve round unanimous decision when they clashed at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 5 last year.
The WBC reports that Cotto?s trainer Freddie Roach has revealed the desire of the Puerto Rican for another shot at Mayweather although he first needs to overcome the challenge of Delvin Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic at the Amway Center in Orlandoi, Florida on Saturday.
Roach said ?I think Miguel is going to win. He then might fight against Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez (who was taken to school by Mayweather) or Sergio Martinez and easily beat them, so he can have a rematch with Floyd Mayweather."
For a Mayweather rematch to happen, Cotto has to win impressively since he also suffered a twelve round unanimous decision loss to Austin Trout on December 1, last year.
Freddie Roach also added that he has never seen a boxer as disciplined as Cotto.
The 32 year old Cotto has a record of 37-4 with 30 knockouts while his opponent this weekend, Rodriguez, has a record of 28-6-3 with 16 knockouts.
