UPSTAGED BY THE WBC GOLDEN BELT, THE WBA ALSO PRODUCES A SPECIAL BELT FOR MAYWEATHER-ALVAREZ WINNER

Obviously upstaged by the World Boxing Council which has produced a hugely expensive pure gold belt to be awarded to the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr ? Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez title fight on Sunday, Manila Time, the World Boxing Association is also producing a special world champion?s belt for the winner.

A WBA source was quoted as saying that the organization ?is designing a special world championship belt for the winner of Alvarez-Mayweather. We are in the final design. I just know that it?s almost ready and we want to give it to the winner. It is very costly but will only be ready when the final details are finished.?

The first special belt for a title fight was the WBC ?Diamond Belt? which ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao won when he scored a 12th round TKO over Miguel Cotto.

The presentation of the golden belt was done with fanfare in Mexico City last week.

The unique gold belt had the Tourism Secretary of Mexico as sponsor and it is embossed with the word Mexico.

The ?Diamond Belt? won by Pacquiao laced with diamonds, rubies and other precious stones.

The unveiling of the gold belt in Mexico was attended by former world champions such as Ultiminio Ramos, Pipino Cuevas, Isaac Bustos, Rafael Lim?n, Diamond champions Ana Mar?a Torres, Daniel Estrada, Yesica Ch?vez and Adri?n Hern?ndez.

In good old fashioned North Country terms, the solid gold belt is worth some: "Brass." The Mexican craftsman who lovingly molded it wants to remain anonymous. As to it's value....Don Jose stayed coy, using an oft used Don King quote: "Mucho dinero!"
