With excitement building up to the battle of the undefeated when pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr faces off against the unbeaten young poster boy of Mexican boxing today, Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez on September 15, Manila Time, Pinoy Box Office will present a two-part, pre-fight series beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday with a replay at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Part I which chronicles the career of the freckle-faced, red-haired Alvarez who proved his remarkable popularity in a high profile press tour by Golden Boy Promotions with highlights of some of his vicious knockout victories including his 1st round KO of Antonio Fitch to win the NABF and Latino welterweight titles, his 10th round TKO of lanky Michael Rosales who had earned a ten round split decision over Filipino southpaw Mark Jason Melligen, his 9th round TKO victory over Jose Miguel Cotto, brother of Miguel Cotto and his smashing 6th round knockout of former WBC welterweight champion Carlos Baldomir among others.
In his last fight before the showdown with Mayweather Jr, ?Canelo? Alvarez aside from successfully defending his WBC light middleweight title won the WBA and vacant Ring Magazine titles with a fairly hard-fought twelve round unanimous decision over big Austin Trout at the Alamadome in Texas which Filipino fight fans will long remember as the venue where ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao annihilated Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in November 2003.
Another Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez has said he believes Mayweather to whom he lost a lopsided twelve round decision is the best and is very elusive and believes Canelo needs a little more experience even as he told boxingscene.com that ?upsets are sparse and based on that I don?t think Canelo can get the upset.?
Question is will Mayweather?s ring savvy and experience prevail or will the punching power and aggressive stance of the young Alvarez prevail.
Viva Sports will telecast part II which chronicles the amazing career of Mayweather Jr on Saturday, September 14, even of ?The One?, Manila Times.
Some of the fight footage on this Saturday?s show was courtesy of WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman and his son and executive director Mauricio Sulaiman.
