On August 24, Abner Mares, the former Mexican Olympian and 3 time world champion in 3 weight divisions, is ready to make the first defense of the featherweight title he won from Mexican and former champion Daniel Ponce De Leon last May in the Floyd Mayweather vs Robert Guerrero undercard.

The fight between this two Mexican warriors is expected to be a great one due to the rich history of Mexican boxing, when you match two Mexicans the result is an epic battle.

This is one of those cases, Johnny Gonzalez a two Time world champion with formidable punching power is a veteran that represents a tough challenge to the young strong champion who is making the first defense of his title, Mares has shown granite chin and has developed explosive power as he has gone up in weight.

A plus for this bout is legendary trainer Nacho Beristain who trained Mares for a while and believes to know his strengths and weaknesses and Mares confirmed that he used to be a sparring partner for Gonzalez in the past.

In the co-main event the high volume puncher Leo Santa Cruz will try to take the super bantamweight championship away from Victor Terrazas in a fight that is expected to be a war while it lasts.
