Michael Linde rules Pangasinan chessfest

Michael Linde of Bulacan emerged as champion of the 3rd Pangasinan Non-Master Open Category 2200 Below at the CB Mall in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan last Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Linde finished the 8-round Swiss System competition with an undefeated record of 7.5 points on account of seven wins and one draw to clinch the title and the P20,000 cash prize.

"I am very happy with my victory because almost all of the top players in Pangasinan and nearby provinces as well as those from Metro Manila joined the tournament," the 45 year old resident City of San Jose Del Monte said in an interview on Monday.

Michael Punzalan of Pampanga, Jose Fernando Camaya of Angeles City and Marc Francis Balanay of Apayao occupied the second to fourth spots with 7.0 points each.

Rowell Roque of Manila landed at fifth place with 6.5 points.

Completing the top 10 were Jan Francis Mirano of Aklan, Christian Jake Tomines of Urdaneta City, Cherry Ann Mejia of San Jacinto, Jeffe Crebillo of Manila and Norvin Gravillo of Quezon City with 6.0 points.-Marlon Bernardino-
