Australia?s hard-hitting southpaw Vic Darchinyan is willing to fight former WBO/Ring Magazine super bantamweight champion Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire at a catch-weight above 122 pounds.
In an overseas telephone conversation with the Manila Standard from Australia, Darchinyan said ?I have been waiting for this fight for more than six years and I am well prepared. I am going to knock him out.?
Darchinyan has long wanted to avenge his 5th round stoppage by Donaire when he lost his IBF/IBO flyweight belts on July 7, 2007 but hasn?t been given the opportunity.
Donaire told us he couldn?t make the 122 pound limit and would move up to featherweight (126) for his next fight which Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said would be held on November 9 although he didn?t name an opponent or a venue.
Donaire who two weeks ago was walking around at over 140 pounds indicated he had started slimming down but even making 126 would be a problem.
Darchinyan, a four-time IBO champion said he is prepared to face Donaire at a catch-weight of 123-124 pounds but would not agree to fighting ?The Filipino Flash? at 126.
He also revealed that his handlers were in negotiations trying to work out a rematch with Donaire and is hoping an agreement could be reached.
Darchinyan who has a record of 39-5-1 with 28 knockouts won the North American Boxing Federation super bantamweight title with a unanimous ten round decision over previously undefeated Luis Orlando Del Valle (16-0, 11 KO?s) on September 29, 2012 and in his last fight on May 11 this year, Darchinyan scored a 4th round TKO over Javier Gallo.
