Undefeated Ben Mananquil who trains at the General Santos gym of ?Fighter of the Decade? Manny Pacquiao was unlucky not to win the WBO Oriental flyweight title at the Chumsaeng Town Hall in Nakomsawan, Thailand on Friday.

Mananquil, a southpaw who is ranked No. 8 light flyweight in the latest ratings of the Games and Amusements Board hammered WBO No.3 ranked flyweight and Oriental champion Kwanpichit Onesongchai Gym in the opening round and sent him crashing to the canvas after a flurry of punches which could have prompted the referee to call a halt but he didn?t and the knockdown effectively saved the Thai fighter.

Mananquil was catching Kwanpichit with devastating punches forcing the Thai who was in trouble much of the way to resort to holding.

Just when Mananquil looked like he would finish Kwanpichit an unfortunate clash of heads opened up a nasty cut over the Thai champion?s eye and with blood pouring down the doctor asked that the fight be stopped and the referee promptly obliged since it was obvious the champion was in dire straits and couldn?t continue.

As a result the fight was declared a technical draw which enabled the 31 year old Kwanpichit to keep his title against the 21 year old Mananquil who was terribly unlucky to lose his chance for glory.

Mananquil's record now stands at 9-0-1 with 2 knockouts while Kwanpichit moves to 22-0-2 with 9 knockouts.
