The word has gone out from ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer to the ALA Gym fighters seeing action in an exciting ?Pinoy Pride XXI? fight card at the Solaire Resort Hotel and Casino on Saturday ?don?t take chances? against their opponents.
Unbeaten WBO minimum weight champion Merlito ?Tiger? Sabillo (21-0, 11 KO?s) makes the first defense of his title against cocky Colombian Jorlie Estrada (16-6, 5 KO?s) who has vowed to win by a knockout and even went to the extent of naming the round like heavyweight Muhammad Ali used to do, predicting he will KO the Filipino in the 7th round.
Aldeguer told the Manila Standard that not only was Estrada ?mayabang, he?s hard to deal with? and acted as though he is the champion when he was ranked No. 6 in the May WBO rankings.
The ALA Promotions president believes that undefeated super flyweight ?King? Arthur Villanueva (21-0, 11 KO?s) faces ?the toughest test? when he faces hard-hitting Mexican Arturo Badillo (21-4, 19 KO?s) in a battle for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific title even though the Mexican lost his last fight by a 2nd round TKO against Daniel Gonzalz last February 13.
Coming off an impressive defense of his OPBF title against Marco Demecillo last April 20, many boxing fans believe he has a promising future but Aldeguer refused to be carried away and told us ?we?ll see what he?s got? on Saturday.
AJ ?Bazooka? Banal, the 24 year old southpaw with a record of 28?2-1 with 20 knockouts moves up in weight to face Abraham ?Cholo? Gomez of Mexico who has a record of 18-7-1 with 9 knockouts in a comeback fight designed to find out whether Banal who squandered two chances to win a world title is ready to get back into the world rankings with an impressive performance.
The fighters will be presented at a press conference at the Solaire Resort Hotel Grand Ballroom on Thursday and the fight card itself will be the first venture at the plush venue in a presentation of ALA Promotions with partners ABS-CBN and will be telecast on the pre-eminent Channel 2 at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday morning with a replay on Studio 23 and coverage over The Filipino Channel which has a huge following particularly in the Middle East.
