WBC minimumweight Silver champion Denver Cuello will undergo surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff at the Makati Medical Center on July 15.
Cuello?s manager Aljoe Jaro said top orthopedic surgeon Dr. Javier had asked Cuello to rest and recover from his tough fight against Chinese world champion Xiong Zhao Zhong in Dubai before undergoing surgery.
Aljoe Jaro said Cuello continued to receive his $24,000 purse in installments from KO Promotions Zack Taumafai who, according to WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman claimed his money was stolen by a partner in the promotional venture at the World Trade Center in Dubai.
Meantime, Cuello?s stable-mate and former WBC flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro will figure in a non-title fight in Cebu on August 1 in an effort to get back into contention for a crack at the world title which he won with a spectacular 6th round TKO of Thai veteran Pongsaklek Wonjongkam on March 2, 2012 but lost in a twelve round split decision to Japan?s Toshiaki Igarashi on July 16, 2012.
Sonny Boy Jaro also lost a ten round unanimous decision to Hiroyuki Hisataka last April 7.
Aljoe Jaro also told us he expects Sulaiman to order a rematch between Cuello and Zhong once the hard-hitting Filipino southpaw who battled the champion with one arm, recovers.
