AIBA President Ching Kuo Wu.
The plan of International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) president Dr. Ching Kuo Wu of Taiwan to exclude professional boxers who don?t join AIBA from the Olympic Games beginning in Brazil in 2016 has met with more opposition.
Promociones del Pueblo has protested the plan for AIBA to monopolize and control Olympic boxing and to exclude all those boxers belonging to an association different AIBA.
Reginaldo Kuchle, CEO of Promociones del Pueblo, said in a statement that ?these new regulations are strongly rejected by Promociones del Pueblo, since they completely destroy the Olympic dream of any amateur boxer that struggles to excel in the Olympic Games.?
He s said ?With these new regulations, boxing is notoriously affected and it disheartens any boxer, as it attempts to obligate them to stay in the AIBA. On the contrary, they will not have the opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games, which is unacceptable?.
Promociones del Pueblo is an enterprise which has promoted boxing for more than 30 years and prides itself on promoting boxing, safeguarding the ethical and basic principles of boxing and always committed to offer the best spectacle to the spectators.
The statement said ?this is the reason why Promociones del Pueblo demonstrates its concern under the same circumstances as WBC? which has led the battle against AIBA?S discriminatory policies.
Kuchle added ?Boxers have the dream of becoming Olympic athletes. We endeavor, and it makes us proud to promote boxers who pursue a professional career full of satisfactions and achievements, after participating in the Olympic Games. We cannot stand this type of arbitrary situations that endanger and cut short the sport of boxing."
Kuchle stressed ?That is why Promociones del Pueblo supports the WBC to defend not only the promoter?s rights, but also to defend all the boxers that have been affected by this ridiculous decision by the International Olympic Committee that benefits only and exclusively AIBA.?
IOC president Jacques Rogge in response to a query from the Manila Standard forwarded by the IOC Media Relations Team said ?As far as the IOC is concerned , AIBA is fully independent as outlined in the Olympic Charter. But they will have to present their new eligibility conditions prior to Rio 2016, just like they did prior to London 2012 with regard to the participation of WSB (World Series of Boxing) boxers.?
